LINKKS Program
Overview

The Rocky Point School District is participating
in the ACES Project (Alcohol Coalition of Eastern Suffolk) under the direction
of Eastern Suffolk BOCES. This three year initiative is comprised of two evidence-based
prevention programs to reduce the incidence of underage drinking. One component
of the program is Project SUCCESS (Schools Using Coordinated Community Efforts
to Strengthen Students) and the other CMCA (Communities Mobilizing for Change
in Alcohol.) Eastern Suffolk BOCES received a grant from the U.S. Department
of Education to implement the ACES Project in the Rocky Point and Shoreham
area.
The Rocky Point strategy team conducted community interviews,
attended planning meetings, and created an action plan during the first year
of the program. Our focus is to reduce the number of students who are drinking
underage or using other harmful drugs. We plan to assist parents with communication
strategies and to provide resources to help keep their children safe. We encourage
parents in our community to become united with one another to share information
on the “where about” of their children. Collaboratively, the children
in our community can remain safe if their actions are monitored by many caring
adults. We are confident that this program will have a positive impact on our
students and give them a greater understanding of the dangers and negative
consequences of drugs and alcohol.
